About Us

FIRST at Yale (FaY) is a student organization that keeps the Yale community engaged with FIRST®, an international youth organization that supports the pursuit of the STEM fields. The vision of FaY is to promote FIRST involvement in the Yale community, while also providing our members with professional opportunities. FaY acts as a liaison between the FIRST headquarters, FIRST’s regional bodies (NEFIRST & CTFIRST), Yale University, and local FIRST teams. FaY supports FIRST teams with volunteers, resources, educational events, and publicity, with the ultimate goal of strengthening the relationship between Yale University and FIRST programs. FaY also serves as a collegiate network for both FIRST alumni and supporters. FaY supports its members’ continued involvement in FIRST, whether through volunteering or mentorship, from college matriculation to career placement. In addition, FaY strives to provide a valuable social group of students that share a similar interest through FIRST.

What is FIRST®?

As described on its website, FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded in 1989 to inspire young people’s interest and participation in science and technology. Based in Manchester, NH, the 501(c)(3) not-for-profit public charity designs accessible, innovative programs that motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math, while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills.

To transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders.
